Bradley Dean will be the newest cast member in the off-Broadway classic The Fantasticks, taking over the role of El Gallo beginning July 25 He replaces Edward Watts, who exits the production on July 24.
Dean joins a company that currently includes Bill Bateman, Matt Dengler, MacIntyre Dixon, Tom Flagg, Matt Leisy, Anne Markt, Michael Nostrand, Dan Sharkey, Juliette Trafton and Charles West.
Dean was most recently seen on Broadway as Carl-Magnus in the revival of Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night Music. His other Broadway credits include Spamalot, Company, Man of La Mancha, The Story of My Life and Jane Eyre. Off-Broadway credits include The Big Time and Walmartopia, as well as a previous stint in The Fantasticks.
Featuring a book, music and lyrics by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt, The Fantasticks concerns two neighboring fathers who put up a wall between their houses to ensure that their children fall in love, because they know children always do what their parents forbid. After the children do fall in love, they discover their fathers' plot and each goes off and experience the world. Finally they return to each other and the love they had, having learned from the world to recognize their true feelings. The score includes such hits as “Try To Remember,” “They Were You” and “Soon It’s Gonna Rain.”
